Lavender Oil

August 6th, 2009

Lavender oil has been one of the most popular of essential oils.  It has been used to reduce acne, moisturize and soften skin, smooth skin, and otherwise.  It is a powerful antiseptic and antibiotic, and it has been used in varying capacities depending on the individual.    This particular essential oil is capable of greater things, and it has shown various users that it can also soothe their skin from past irritation and otherwise.  It comes from the mint family, and there are about 39 species found in Africa, Asia, and various tropical regions.

It has been cultivated in the Mediterranean and France among other areas, and it has been used in perfumes, gels, soaps, and otherwise to give you the results you are looking for.  It can be steamed or you can use it in sprays, gels, washes, etc for your skin, and frankly it always has a pleasant smell if for nothing else.  I’ve found that it is often most effective when used in oils with other essential oils and basically distilled fatty oils from good fats like vegetable oil.  But it depends on you as to what you prefer.  I’ve also used it for plain aromatherapy, and it has been highly effective in that as well.

Staying Young

July 16th, 2009

You may be aging faster than you think.  I’ve seen some former starlets who still look young.  They’ve gotten so much plastic surgery over the years and so on that they are 80, but you would swear that they might be 30 if you were only looking at the skin.  But they say you may be older or younger than your biological age.  In those cases, they want to look younger.  But so often it seems they are experiencing some of the other signs of aging such as heart attacks, strokes, dementia, and other health issues.  They say that behavior is the most important factor.  Yes, you could use the right wrinkle creams, go in for surgeries, etc.

But no matter how young you look, if you are in an older mentality…..you get the idea.  So they say basically exercise, eat well, don’t smoke, avoid environmental toxins, and maintain a stable emotional state all impact lifespan.  Understanding the benefits and risk factors can help you to beat the odds and even reduce pounds that are often added each year of life.  Instead of gaining about 1 pound on average every year, you can maintain your old weight or even lose weight as you get older and feel younger in general as you get older than you would without the proper precautions

Urine Therapy

July 8th, 2009

When I heard of urine therapy, there are two things that cross my mind.  First, the obvious gross!  I mean honestly, you pee on someone’s leg to reduce the pain of a jelly fish sting.  But you don’t pee on your face or let them pee on your face or apply urine there!  Second, this is actually more related to skincare.  They have used an ingredient called urea as a preservative and sometimes a moisturizer.  It is pee or urine as you might expect, and it has actually been shown to damage the skin, possibly due to the acidity often associated with urine in general.

I first heard of this, because there was a woman in a hospital who apparently was interrogated because they were sure she had to be the wrong patient as she looked younger than she was.  But apparently she took a swab of her own morning urine and dabbed it all over her face and neck.  Wouldn’t that stink later on too?  Anyway, once it dried, she used her favorite moisturizing face wash to cleanse it and then dabbed her skin dry with a towel.

Couldn’t it be the face wash?  Apparently, it’s highly recommended for zits, which if the acidity were high enough would kill bacteria to some degree.  But it might also like urea cause skin irritation.  But in terms of wrinkles, I am highly doubtful.  They may have used it in the Renaissance period, but that’s not necessarily a good indication.

Skin Healthy Fruits

July 3rd, 2009

In terms of weight loss, you could really go with any fruit you wanted and if you stick to fruits in general, you could lose weight.  But while many fruits have powerful antioxidants, it is a little bit different if you are looking for the right skin fruit.  There are a few of the best options for you.  While others provide very basic results, these go a little bit further.

1.       Pomegranate-this has been known as one of the major superfruits, and with pomegranate, like with other fruits you get vitamins, minerals, and free radical fighting antioxidants.  But you also get the effect that the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry has shown.  It has been shown to protect against photoaging of the skin by inhibiting the breakdown of collagen and therefore supporting the structure of the skin.

2.       Grapefruit-yes, you can use a grapefruit diet or a grapefruit skin treatment.  It is rich in vitamin C, which naturally rejuvenates the skin anyway.  But it also uses citric acid, which gently exfoliates away dead skin cells and keeps the complexion from appearing to be dry and flaky.

3.       Pumpkin-it is full of healthy vitamins and minerals among other ingredients, and it is full of carotenoids, essentially the part of the pumpkin that you get that brilliant orange color from.  This also serves as a powerful antioxidant to protect the skin, and it has enzymes which allow the skin to effectively renew itself.  All this helps you to look younger and give your skin a younger feel.

Sleep & Wrinkles

June 9th, 2009

Sleep is a big contributor to a lot of things including stress levels certainly, but not limited to those that you most commonly think of.  In particular, a good amount of sleep, even including a nap in some cases, could contribute to clear skin and lesser occurences of wrinkles.  While most treat the visual and outer cases of wrinkles, you really should be treating the root causes, which most doctors and dermatologists are just not inclined to do, as they would have to recommend more natural products rather than expensive prescriptions among other things.

In particular, you could eat a more balanced diet, avoid chocolate, exercise and really keep your body clean after exertion, drink plenty of water, etc.  These few steps would eliminate a significant number of cases, eliminating the need for many consultations among other things.  There are doctors and pharmacists in other countries who have no hesitation in telling you to avoid these basic things.  But American doctors are far less likely to.

But if you are able to sleep anywhere from 7 to 9 hours each night, you will be significantly more likely to actually obtain the results from that sleep.  these hours will allow you to be fully rested, control hormones, control extra stress, and otherwise help you to rejuvenate your body, allowing it to replenish the skin at night and ultimately avoid acne.  And while the skin opens its pores to repair itself and replenish, a night cream can be especially helpful if you choose to use these.  In short, sleep is not directly responsible for wrinkles.  However, it causes many of the contributing factors that you may or may not actually think of, and there are certainly natural products that could help to enhance this.
